Automate a Restaurant Seeds, Beds, and Pots

Turn shop seeds into a reliable farm before drones take over the walking.

Seeds and Beds

Seeds, beds, and pots are the planting layer of Automate a Restaurant, the Roblox incremental simulator from m_experiment (released May 25, 2026). Farm Crops covers field timing and bag space. This page explains the shop-to-soil loop: buy seeds, equip them on beds, drop them into pots when the kitchen uses that station, upgrade planted crops, and set a price cap so you do not bankrupt the restaurant on luxury seeds.

Join the correct place—Automate a Restaurant on Roblox—before copying any farm advice. Run a Restaurant uses staff farmers and beehives; this title uses your plots, your seed inventory, and later harvest drones.

What a seed actually does

A seed is a spendable item, not a permanent unlock. You purchase it from the in-game shop (or receive a tutorial stack), equip it, then plant it on a bed or into a pot. Growth starts only after the seed is placed. Harvesting returns food or ingredients; the bed does not automatically restock unless you plant again or a harvest drone covers that job.

That distinction matters. Players who treat seeds like a one-time upgrade leave empty beds after the first harvest and wonder why the kitchen starves. Replant is part of the loop, the same way serving is part of income.

Beds versus pots

The restaurant uses two planting surfaces that look similar in screenshots but serve different stations:

SurfaceTypical useCommon mistake
BedOutdoor or backyard crop rowsEquipping the wrong seed and wasting a buy
PotCompact indoor or kitchen plant slotsLeaving pots empty while beds look “full enough”

If a recipe or customer ticket waits on a crop you only grow in pots, a huge backyard of beds will not help. Walk the kitchen once and note which stations pull from which surface. Controls & UI covers interact prompts if you cannot tell a bed from a decorative planter.

Buy, equip, plant

A clean planting cycle looks like this:

  1. Open the shop and buy only the seed types your current recipes use.
  2. Equip the seed on the bed you intend to fill—do not leave it sitting in inventory while you stare at empty soil.
  3. Plant on every empty bed or pot in that cluster before you walk back to the stove.
  4. Upgrade planted seeds only after the cluster is full. Upgrading one lonely plant while six beds sit empty is a vanity spend.
  5. Harvest and replant in the same lap, or assign a harvest drone later (Unlock Drones).

Set a max seed cost in your head even if the UI does not label it that way. Early cash should buy cheap tutorial seeds and extra beds, not the most expensive packet in the shop. The Seed Priority list ranks that decision.

Upgrading planted seeds

Once a seed is in the ground, many kitchens offer a level-up on that plant: higher yield, faster growth, or both. Upgrade after you can afford to keep the bed planted. A max-level seed on one tile does not feed a ten-player rush if the rest of the farm is bare.

Co-op rule: say out loud who may upgrade plants. Shared restaurants (about 10 players) burn cash when three friends each upgrade a different seed type. See Co-op Shared Restaurant.

When to expand instead of upgrade

If every bed is planted and you still run out of ingredients, you need more backyard cells, not a shinier seed. Read Backyard Cells before dumping the till into one plant. If food is rotting in storage while beds sit empty, the bottleneck is collection—Storage and Lever—not seed rarity.

Session checklist

  • Buy only seeds that match dishes you can already cook or are actively experimenting toward (Discover Recipes).
  • Fill every unlocked bed and pot before upgrading any single plant.
  • Skip unaffordable luxury seeds; cheap volume beats one trophy crop.
  • End the session by replanting so timers run while you are away.
  • Mark the cluster on the Recipe Checklist so co-op partners do not replant over your experiment crop.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do I need to buy seeds every harvest in Automate a Restaurant?

Yes in practice. Seeds are spent when planted. Rebuy or restock before beds empty, unless a later upgrade changes that loop after a patch.

What is the difference between a bed and a pot?

Beds are the main crop rows, usually in the backyard. Pots are compact plant slots closer to the kitchen. Fill both if your recipes pull from both.

Should I upgrade a seed or buy more beds first?

Fill every unlocked bed with cheap seeds first. Upgrade planted crops after the farm is fully occupied. See Seed Priority and Backyard Cells.

Can drones plant seeds for me?

Harvest drones cut walking time. You still choose which seeds to buy and which beds to fill. Unlock Drones explains role timing.
